In 1987, the Commission on Presidential Debates was established jointly by the Democratic and Republican parties to ensure that debates between the leading candidates for the President of the United States were a permanent part of the electoral process.
Now, the Republican National Committee has voted unanimously to leave the CPD, ending more than three decades of bipartisan civic cooperation.
“The Commission on Presidential Debates is biased and has refused to enact simple and commonsense reforms to help ensure fair debates including hosting debates before voting begins and selecting moderators who have never worked for candidates on the debate stage,” Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.

The Presidential Debate Commission, it’s structure and operation is an insult to democracy. Heaven forbid third and fourth party candidates be given a platform for their ideas. I hope it dies a quick death.
I wonder if half the reason the GOP decided on this, doesn’t have anything to do with the committee at all – but the fact that tRump got slaughtered by Biden at the last one. tRump can’t help reeking of narcissism and low IQ, and always plays the victim using misinformation.
It’s a move by the GOP that screams “Keep him off the stage! it’s the only chance we have at shutting him up and not making us look worse than we already do!” Let’s hope for the strength and health of our nation, and the restoration of faith in it, he never gets the chance to speak on any stage.
