When Chinese Government comes to mind, what things do you generally think of? Most of you would say The Great Wall, feng shui, their food, pandas, cheap products, communism, and martial arts, among others. All of these are valid observations, as China is indeed famous for such. But I’d like to add something to that list, a thing that is so rare that China has to be remembered for it: most of the political leaders in China are scientists and engineers. To prove that fact, let us play a quick game.
Name a scientist or an engineer from your country’s top government officials. Don’t cheat with Google, just think of someone that you already know. Now I doubt that you have thought one especially if you’re in the U.S. Nowhere in the world can you see the same admiration and respect from the public to their scientists and engineers other than in China. This is a little known fact. They admire such professionals so much to the point that they qualify these […]

Your comment shows bias as it ignores much unhappiness within the people and their disdain for their government. Some of the officials are educated, most are not. You would not like them so much if you had to live there long term.
Have you ever actually been to China, Jim? I suspect not. I talked to dozens of ordinary Chinese citizens while I was there in 2018. Educated Chinese use VPNs and get access to an uncensored net. From the point of view of an average Chinese life is ever so much better than when I was there in 1989. They use an app called WeChat, and all seem to have smartphones and are constantly sending one another messages. They drive cars that are better than most Americans. What you, like most Americans don’t understand is that within living memory China has had long periods of violent social upheaval resulting in the death of 70 million people, and now they have stability and opportunity.
China has returned to the Mandarin system (look it up) and the vibe in China reminds me a great deal of the U.S. in the 1950s, optimistic, forward-thinking, excited about the future.
It is not a system I would want to live under, but I loathe and am scared about the social climate in America today.
